We have had a great start to the school year here at Denver Elementary!
Kindergarten students have made great strides with their mousing skills in just two class periods. For some, it is a difficult fine motor skill to master, but we continue to improve. If your student would like to practice using the mouse at home, I would suggest going to www.funbrain.com/pre-k-and-k-playground.
Our first graders have been reviewing their technology skills to begin the school year. I am excited to also be doing library with them this year! We have been talking about book care, so be sure to ask them why the Pigeon can't touch the books.
The second graders have also been reviewing to begin the year and have just started using the app Toontastic to create their own stories. Be sure to ask them what their stories are all about. You can learn more about the app here toontastic.withgoogle.com/.
This year in third and fourth grades, I have changed some things up and they are having an integration of technology and library skills each time they see me. We have started off the year by doing a fiction scavenger hunt that utilizes our library researcher and Google Docs. They have to use their knowledge of alphabetical order, Alexandria, and Google Docs to find books in the library and take a picture of them for their Doc. This also takes a lot of teamwork, so hopefully all of the skills will improve as we work on it more.
When fifth grade has not been at EWALU we have been reviewing our G Suite apps. We started with an All About Me Google Drawing and will soon be reviewing Docs and Slides.
Please take the time to ask your student what they are doing in Library and Technology.
